Fathers Day does not have the same long history as Mothers Day, but has come to be just as beloved a day for many. Originating in America in the 1900s, Fathers Day has since spread across the world and is believed to be popularised in the UK after the Second World War, likely as a result of American soldiers that had been stationed in the UK.

The charity ‘The Lord Taverners’ will be coming to us with a very special event to celebrate the upcoming Test Match between England and India. A planned equisite Indian Banquet special apearences from David Gower, Ashley Giles and Ravi Shastri who will be there to share anecdotes about their time in the sport, along with a live auction led by Richard Madeley. Of course, being a Botanical Gardens, we cannot ignore the flowers traditionally assosiated with Fathers Day. In a French tradition, the rose is linked to fathers. Whilst some would consider the rose to be a romantic gesture, the association of love and life can make a rose a deeply meaningful gift.  According this french tradition, on Fathers Day, red roses are to be given to your father in person, whilst white roses are to be laid in a place of memory for your father if they have passed on.

Our Rose Garden is the natural place to discover the beauty these flowers can hold. This area of the Gardens, located by the Stretch Tent has the beautiful flowers variety of roses  and at this time of year they are blooming beautifully.
