– Vice-Chancellor, Birmingham City University
Professor David Mba is a distinguished leader in higher education, with a career dedicated to research, innovation, and community impact. As Vice-Chancellor of Birmingham City University (BCU), he drives the institution’s strategic vision, championing collaboration and knowledge exchange to benefit both students and society.
With a background in aerospace and mechanical engineering, David’s research has contributed to advancements across academia and industry, earning him recognition as a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering. His leadership extends beyond the university, as trustee of AdvanceHE, co-chair of the Black Leaders in HE network and chair of the Birmingham Cultural Compact, reinforcing his commitment to diversity, inclusion, and cultural enrichment.
Now, as a Patron of Birmingham Botanical Gardens, David brings his passion for education and sustainability to our historic Gardens. Through BCU’s Strategic Learning Partnership with the Gardens, he is fostering new opportunities for research, wellbeing, and creative exploration—connecting people, plants, and place for a brighter future.
