As part of the project, work will include restoring an old, deteriorated pond and redirecting a natural spring to create a safe, freshwater habitat for native wildlife such as smooth newts, freshwater leeches and ramshorn snails. A new accessible boardwalk and platform will introduce more opportunities for schools, families and other learning groups to participate in fun, hands-on pond dipping sessions that explore food chains, life cycles, habitats, and ecosystems. Tree planting will establish new hedging, contributing to enhancing habitat diversity and creating safe environments for wildlife to thrive.

With Howells’ generous donation, the revitalised Community Garden will help contribute towards BBG’s mission to support plant biodiversity and conservation, while helping create a dedicated space for everyone to learn, explore and connect with nature.

We are delighted to continue to grow our partnership with Howells and are extremely grateful for their generous donation and continued support in helping preserve the Gardens for generations to come.
