Anti Racist Statement

At BBG we are committed to being an anti-racist organisation and are working towards improving inclusivity and representation of people from the Global Ethnic Majority (GEM) in all our work. We will be visible and confident in efforts to support our workforce and partners. We will use our influence to do more to drive anti-racism within our sector and wider society. We are holding ourselves and each other accountable for change, that change needs to happen and acknowledge that this work will be ongoing.

We will:

Develop and implement new recruitment and selection approaches to enhance our efforts to become a more diverse and representative organisation, as well as investing in the development and retention of our GEM workforce at all levels.

Enhance our induction and onboarding processes and programmes for our workforce, contractors and partners.

Grow our understanding of the impact of working with difficult subject matters for our teams and visitors, and how this affects wellbeing.

Develop our training for our workforce as well as provide personal development opportunities facilitated by external specialists.

Enhance our procurement policies to ensure suppliers meet, and can demonstrate compliance with, our equality, diversity, inclusion and ethical standards. And explore more equitable processes for diversifying our supply chain.

Develop a method and practice of teaching diversity, anti-racism and Black histories through our learning and participation programmes, through collaboration with local, national and international educators.

Actively Create displays and interpretation that reveal multiple histories whilst amplifying marginalised voices. This will include exploring how our own living collections were historically collected and curated.

Enhance opportunities for people from the GEM and communities to collaborate and work with us to develop, programme and present new displays, exhibitions, research, collections and digital content.
