Did you know there are over 10,000m² of grass at the Gardens?
Everyday our small horticultural team work very hard to maintain and care for our historic gardens; protecting a significant living collection, supporting biodiversity and ensuring the Gardens remain a safe and welcoming and place for everyone to enjoy. But caring for 15 acres of land is no easy job!
Today the team look after 10,000+m² of grass, 3000 of which is long grass and relies on petrol-powered strimmers and hand-held mowers. This is physically demanding, time-consuming, and over time can cause long-term health damage to joints and hearing due to prolonged exposure to the vibration and noise.
How you can help:
With your support we can purchase modern equipment that can ensure better health for our staff and reduce our carbon-emissions. We are asking for your help to raise the remaining £3,000 to purchase a fully electric, remote-control lawnmower, affectionately known as ‘Mow-Bot’.

Superpowers of the new ‘Mow-Bot’
Efficiency
‘Mow-Bot’ can cut different lengths of grass with ease, removing the need for multiple pieces of equipment and manpower to operate them.
Safety
Reducing physical demand on the horticultural team, minimising the risk of long term health conditions from prolonged use of heavy-duty equipment.
Sustainability
‘Mow-Bot’ is fully electric, reducing carbon emissions and noise pollution created by the currently used petrol tools.
Biodiversity
‘Mow-Bot’s ability to cut to different lengths will help us to better manage wildflower meadows and biodiversity areas, so these areas can flourish and support pollinators.
By purchasing a new and essential ‘Mow-Bot’, our horticultural team will have more resource as we begin our exciting Capital Project transformation, ‘Growing Our Green Heritage’, supporting our journey to become more sustainable, and ensure the Gardens survive for generations to come (read more here).
