Gardens Cinema Summer Screenings 2026

9 June 2026|4 Minutes|In Updates

In partnership with Mockingbird Cinema & Flatpack, Gardens Cinema returns this summer with outdoor film screenings at Birmingham Botanical Gardens.

From 13th – 16th August, we’ll be turning the Gardens into a twilight wonderland of film and nostalgia for our much-loved outdoor cinema events. Whether you’re reliving the magical wonder of Jurassic Park or getting swept up in the style of Pulp Fiction, this is your chance to see iconic stories in a setting unlike any other.

Come early and watch the sunset, then settle in for an evening beneath the stars. You’ll get special access to wander the Victorian Glasshouses and explore the Gardens in twilight before the screening begins (please note, some paths will remain closed for safety).

Our Gardens Cinema series shifts into neon-drenched dystopia on Saturday night as we present Akira — a groundbreaking anime masterpiece where teenage unrest collides with psychic power and political paranoia.

Set in the explosive sprawl of Neo-Tokyo, this visually stunning cult classic follows biker gangs, secret government projects, and a friendship pushed to the brink. With its iconic red motorcycle, pulsing synth score, and apocalyptic energy, Akira redefined animation and cyberpunk cinema for generations.

Set against a sultry backdrop of power and deception, Sinners follows a man torn between ambition and morality as he’s drawn into a dangerous world where every choice has consequences. With simmering tension, striking visuals, and a pulse-quickening soundtrack, it’s a story of desire, betrayal, and the thin line between right and wrong.

Our Gardens Cinema series gets slick and sharp after dark with Pulp Fiction — a razor-edged cult classic that reshaped ‘90s cinema with its punchy dialogue and unforgettable characters.

Directed by Quentin Tarantino, this twisted tale of hitmen, hustlers, and happenstance unfolds across neon-lit diners and shadowy backrooms in Los Angeles. With its surf-rock soundtrack, pop-culture swagger, and endlessly quotable lines, it’s cool, chaotic, and completely iconic.
