Courses and Workshops

If you are looking for an enjoyable new hobby or you wish to learn a new skill, then why not meet new friends in the tranquil surroundings of the Gardens by joining one of our leisure learning courses? We offer a wide selection of courses that change frequently and take place at different times during the week including daytimes, evenings and at weekends.

Floristry weekend workshopPre-booking for all our courses is essential and places are limited; you can enrol at the Gardens’ reception during normal opening hours or you can enrol over the telephone by credit/debit card on 0121 454 1860. Alternatively, you can print off the enrolment form below (please telephone to enquire about availability of places first) and send it with your payment to; Gardens' Reception Team, Birmingham Botanical Gardens, Westbourne Road, Edgbaston, Birmingham B15 3TR. Payment must be received at the time of booking to secure your place on your chosen course. Sorry, but we do not send out booking confirmations due to limited staff resources.

All workshops are held in the Gardens' Study Centre building; please note there is limited parking available at the Study Centre so you might prefer to use the main Gardens' car park. Please make certain that you really can attend a course before booking as no refunds can be given. Tea and coffee is provided on all-day weekend workshops and participants for shorter courses may wish to bring a flask or use the on-site Pavilion Tearoom.

Costs for our daytime and evening courses are currently £50 and these courses usually last for ten weeks unless otherwise stated. Weekend workshops are priced according to the length of the course and you will find their costs, together with all the necessary equipment requirements, by clicking on the link further down the page.

Would you like to be a tutor on our leisure learning programme? We look for the ability and the committment to enthuse a group of people about your relevant subject area. Ideally, your course proposal will fit closely with our Education Strategy in that it will have relevance to our setting as a botanical garden, through an environmental, botanical or nature-related theme. If you are interested in an hourly paid position as a tutor, you should send in a written outline of your course proposal, together with your CV and two references to 'The Study Centre' at the address above. We will keep your details on file and should a suitable vacancy arise, then we will contact you. Alternatively, you might be interested in hiring one of our rooms to run your course.
